The Liberal National Government is providing a team of dedicated on-the-ground advisers to help flood-affected businesses in North Queensland.

Funded by the Coalition Government’s Entrepreneurs’ Programme, the business advisers will run workshops in the region from March to June.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology, Karen Andrews said the Coalition was committed to supporting businesses affected by the floods, which caused widespread damage across North Queensland earlier this month.

“Our dedicated business advisers will run workshops designed to assist businesses to take steps and get back on their feet as quickly as possible,” Minister Andrews said.

“They will provide practical information and referrals to help businesses get through what is a very difficult time.”

Dates and locations of workshops will be available shortly and communicated through the local AusIndustry office, existing regional networks, the Small Business Recovery Centre in Townsville, and local chambers of commerce.

“This support we’re providing is in addition to the Coalition Government’s commitment of disaster assistance through the joint Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements,” Minister Andrews said.

“The Coalition Government has also committed $1 million in support funding to each of the affected Queensland shires.

“The funds will target urgent priority areas such as rate relief for impacted properties, reconstruction of infrastructure, or the disposal of cattle that have perished.”

The Commonwealth Government’s contribution to North Queensland, as a result of these floods, is now over $100 million, including $3 million to bolster mental health services on the ground.

The joint Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements has also increased grants for farmers from $25,000 to $75,000.
