The Morrison Government is helping small businesses to grow and create more jobs, with the launch of the National Innovation Games on the Gold Coast today.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said ten teams of businesses, students and graduates will put their minds to the test in the competition, which fosters creative thinking and collaboration.

“Bringing together our best and brightest with our industry leaders in this fun environment will help boost the economy and create jobs,” Minister Andrews said.

“Each SME will grapple with the day’s challenge, thinking outside of the box and collaborating to unlock innovative solutions.

“The great thing about these Games is even those who don’t win walk away with know-how which will help them to grow their business and create new job opportunities.

“The Morrison Government is also determined to boost STEM participation and innovative business thinking, that’s why we’re providing $3.5 million over two years for the delivery of the Games.”

Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business, Michaelia Cash said the Games are a great example of how small businesses can benefit from embracing technology and creative thinking.

“This Government is committed to helping more Australian small businesses innovate and grow because we know that when small businesses prosper, the economy thrives and every Australian benefits.”

“These Games are just another example of how our Government is supporting those who put their hand up to have a go, especially in the small business sector.”

Today’s event on the Gold Coast is the first of up to 30 that will be rolled out in every state and territory, in both metropolitan and regional areas.

At the end of each Games, teams will pitch their solutions and the winners will be chosen by a judging panel. Future Games will draw on a broad range of innovation, technology and digital challenges.

Helping small and medium sized businesses to innovate is part of the Morrison Government’s plan to grow the economy and create 1.25 million jobs over the next five years.

The Council of Small Business Organisations Australia is delivering the Games in conjunction with Paddl Co.
