Professor Emma Johnston AO joins CSIRO Board

The Australian Government has appointed Professor Emma Johnston AO as a part-time member of the CSIRO Board for four years commencing from 22 August 2023.

The CSIRO Board is accountable to the Australian Government for the overall strategy, governance and performance of CSIRO.

Professor Johnston is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) at the University of Sydney and is a globally recognised authority in marine science and conservation.

In 2018, Professor Johnston’s distinguished service to higher education as an academic and researcher was acknowledged when she was made an Officer of the Order of Australia

While leading significant ecological research projects for industry and government, she has championed sustainable and diverse solutions to environmental threats including marine pollution, invasive species and bushfire impacts and is a strong advocate for women participating in STEM.
