New Chair appointed to the Australian Energy Market Commission
A leading energy expert, Ms Anna Collyer has been appointed Chair of the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC).
Ms Collyer, who has spent more than two decades in the industry, will replace Ms Merryn York who has been acting Chair since July 2020 following the retirement of Mr John Pierce AO.
Ms Collyer brings extensive public and private sector experience in the energy industry, having worked extensively on industry reform, including with Energy Ministers and the AEMC.
As Partner and Head of Innovation at international law firm Allens, and before that as Head of Allens’ Energy, Resources and Infrastructure practice, her work has included mergers and acquisitions, privatisations and project development, particularly in renewables.
Ms Collyer’s experience has provided her with a deep insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector and the AEMC as a key market institution. She is a proven organisational change leader who is well placed to lead the AEMC through this period of significant transition in the energy market and into the future.
I welcome Ms Collyer’s appointment and look forward to working with her to progress important energy market reforms.
Ms Collyer’s appointment will commence on 1 February 2021 and she has been appointed to the role for five years.
I thank Ms York for her leadership of the AEMC since stepping in as acting Chair. Ms York will continue in her role as Commissioner to the AEMC, having commenced a five-year term in 2019.
