Power price relief campaign launch
The Liberal and Nationals Government is continuing to take action so more Australians pay less for their electricity.
Today we launch a new phase of the Powering Forward campaign - focused solely on reducing power prices.
The campaign will help Australians to get a better deal for their energy.
Already this week the big energy companies have been forced to provide a better deal to more than 458,000 people thanks to pressure from our Government.
AGL, Energy Australia, and Origin Energy, along with other retailers, have heard the Government's calls, and cut their prices for customers on standing offers by up to 15 per cent.
We urge other energy companies to follow the lead of these companies and act in the interest of their customers.
While Labor sides with the big energy companies - we will always put customers first.
We know that navigating your power bills, understanding your energy usage and negotiating a better deal can be confusing and time consuming.
That's why the Powering Forward campaign helps Australians get a better deal, switch to another provider and keep cool while saving money throughout the summer months.
We will soon introduce our big stick legislation to stop the dodgy practices by the big energy companies - to further protect Australian consumers.
This builds on our action plan for affordable, reliable power, including:
- creating a price safety net to protect customers and remove the loyalty tax
- backing investment in reliable generation to improve competition, lower prices and guarantee reliable supply, and
- supporting reliable power by requiring energy companies to sign contracts guaranteeing enough energy to meet demand.
The Powering Forward campaign will run on television, radio, print, digital and social media.
