Australia’s cyber security capability continues to strengthen with the launch of a new hub in the ACT, which will boost innovation and increase collaboration.

Known as the ‘Canberra Node’, the ACT Cyber Security Innovation Node is a partnership between the Federal Government-backed AustCyber and the ACT Government and joins five other state and territory nodes across Australia.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said the establishment of the Canberra Node was part of the Government’s plan to grow the cyber security sector, create jobs, and build industry capability in local and global markets.

“Growing an Australian cyber security sector that is innovative and globally competitive needs collaboration between everyone in the cyber security ecosystem,” Minister Andrews said.

“The Morrison Government wants to ensure Australia gets a good piece of the rapidly growing global cyber security market which is expected to be worth US$250 billion by 2026.

“Being a leader in cyber security will provide opportunities for businesses to expand and innovate and for Australians to forge careers in the sector.”

The Canberra Node forms part of the Federal Government’s cyber security growth centre, AustCyber’s National Network of Nodes, which is focused on local capability development and addressing challenges faced by the sector.

AustCyber was established in 2017 as part of the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative and is designed to drive economic growth and create jobs in the sector.
