Ideas Boom offers opportunity for Gold Coast

16 March 2016

Businesses, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and universities  are urged to attend an information session on the Australian Government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda (NISA) on the Gold Coast next Monday, 21 March.

Assistant Minister for Science and Member for McPherson, Karen Andrews, said the session would detail NISA measures aiming to transform Australia into an innovation powerhouse.

“The Gold Coast has a wealth of innovative businesses and entrepreneurs as well as world-class universities and research organisations,” Mrs Andrews said.

“I encourage all interested parties to register for the information session at Bond University which will outline the Government’s $1.1 billion investment to seize the next wave of economic prosperity and grasp the opportunities created by technological disruption.

“There are many opportunities for this region under the NISA to capitalise on our great ideas and entrepreneurial know-how to create jobs, growth and investment.”

The Gold Coast information session builds on 20 successful sessions held in capital cities and major regional centres since the Agenda was launched in December last year.

Mrs Andrews will welcome attendees to the session, followed by a presentation from executive staff from the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, and a Q&A session.

“We’ve had a very positive response from stakeholders and strong community support for the initiatives that will help all Australians be part of the ideas boom,” Mrs Andrews said.

“These initiatives will reach across the community to foster startups, encourage greater collaboration between business and research, equip our young people with the skills they need for 21st century jobs, and expand opportunities for women in (STEM) careers.
